Troubleshooting login failures and blocks

What to do when your password doesn't work or you've been blocked

Updated over a year ago

Often, Certara Admin login failures are the result of two things:

  1. Your username/password combination is incorrect.

  2. Your login or IP address has been blocked.

Here's what you can do to overcome these common login hurdles:

❌ Incorrect username/password combination

With all the logins you have for all the apps you use day-to-day, it can be difficult to remember them all if you're not using a secure password management app. The easiest way to overcome this type of login problem is to reset your password.

πŸ”‘ Resetting your password

Whether you just forgot your password or you missed the expiration date for setting a new password per your organization's security practices, setting a new Certara Admin password is easy:

  1. Navigate to the login screen and click the Forgot my password link.

  2. Enter the organization email address you use to access Certara Admin (or, if this is your first time, enter the email address you use to access your connected Certara applications), then click the Send recovery link button. You'll immediately be redirected to the login screen.

  3. Check your email inbox (if you don't see the reset password email within 10 minutes, check your junk/spam folder).

  4. Click the Reset Password button in the email. It's important to take care of this as soon as possible, as the link will expire after 24 hours.

  5. Enter a new password that meets your company's password complexity requirements.

  6. Enter the new password a second time to confirm, then click the Reset my password button. If you happen to remember your password and no longer need to reset it, just click the Back to sign-in link at the bottom of the screen:

You're all set! Simply enter your username and the new password in the login screen and you should have successfully logged into Certara Admin.

When in doubt, defer to your organization's Certara Admin or IT Administrator, especially if your company has Single Sign On (SSO) and integrates with an Identity Provider.

πŸ“‹ About password requirements

Your organization's Certara Admin/IT Administrator controls password complexity requirements. Passwords must have a certain minimum length and level of complexity. For example, some applications require at least 8 characters, one upper case letter, lower case letter, number, and symbol.

Not only is password complexity controlled by your organization's Administrator, so is the periodic requirement to reset your password. For example, you may be required to update your password every 90 days. You also may be restricted from recycling any of the 10 previous passwords you used or making your Username part of the password.

We recommend you update your password as soon as you see the password expiration reminder so your access is not interrupted.

πŸ›‘ You've been blocked... now what?

Your account can become blocked for a variety of reasons - forgotten passwords are the most common cause of blocked accounts due to too many incorrect login attempts. The number of login attempts allowed before an account is blocked is controlled by your organization's Certara Admin/IT Administrator.

When attempting to login, if you see a notification that you've been blocked, here's what you can do to regain access to Certara Admin:

First, the Blocked notification may indicate that the block will automatically be removed after a specified period of time. This automatic block removal time period is controlled by your company's Administrator, and some organizations may choose to disable automatic unblocking in favor of manually investigating and unblocking on a case-by-case basis.

When a user is blocked, three things happen:

  1. The Certara Admin/IT Administrator receives a notification that a user has been blocked. The Administrator can click the link in the notification to go directly to the Users screen to investigate and unblock the user.

  2. A banner will appear at the top of the Administrators Users screen, indicating that there are users blocked.

  3. A small Blocked "pill" will appear in the Users list next to any user who is blocked.

Once the Certara Admin/IT Administrator has unblocked the user, an email is delivered to that user's email inbox stating that they are no longer blocked and may attempt to login again.

We recommend that, once unblocked, users reset their passwords using the Forgot my password prompt to avoid being blocked again.

πŸ’‘ Where to get help

Login failures and blocks are handled within your organization by the designated Certara Admin or IT Administrator at your company. Please contact the Administrator at your company first for help with these things before reaching out to Certara Admin support.
